2017 Acura MDX Debuts with Updated Styling, Sport Hybrid Option

The Acura MDX has long been a leader in the luxury SUV segment. And if its latest iteration – unveiled at the New York Auto Show  – is any indication of its future status, it looks like it will remain the go-to choice for luxury SUV shoppers.

Power Meets Efficiency

One of the most exciting revelations about the all-new MDX is the available Sports Hybrid model, which is powered by Acura’s state-of-the-art Sport Hybrid SH-AWD powertrain. Under the sculpted hood sits a 3.0-liter DOHC V6 engine that is mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, with an integrated electric motor powering the front wheels, and a twin motor unit with two electric motors powering the rear wheels.

Hybrid models have a reputation for delivering stilted performance but that won’t be the case with the 2017 MDX. Its intelligent system delivers electrified torque vectoring for improved straight-line performance and cornering precision. In combination with Acura’s patented SH-AWD, drivers can expect handling unmatched by any other vehicle in its class.

According to Acura, the 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid will generate a total output of 325 horsepower and is anticipated to return an EPA-estimated 26 mpg combined (25 mpg city/26 mpg highway).

Precision in Design

The 2017 MDX sports a sharply penned exterior that demands attention. The new diamond pentagon grille first appeared on the Acura Precision Concept and adds an extra layer of sportiness. The 2017 MDX also benefits from a new sharply sculpted hood, front fascia, and front fenders coupled with new LED fog lights and restyled Jewel Eye™ headlights.

At the back, new design elements include a new chrome rocker panel design, a revised rear bumper, body-colored skid garnish, and the addition of twin tailpipes. It’s easy to see that performance played a large role in the development of the next-generation MDX.

Feature-Rich Interior

Adding to the 2017 MDX’s pedigree is an increased number of standard luxury and technology features designed to make your drive more enjoyable. These include an electric parking brake with automatic brake hold, auto high beam headlights, and SiriusXM Radio® 2.0. There’s even four 2.5 amp USB charging points onboard, something device-lovers will surely appreciate.

Additionally, all versions of the 2017 MDX now come standard with AcuraWatch™, which incorporates advanced safety and driver-assistive technology such as Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, and much more, proving once again that the MDX is simply in a league of its own.

The 2017 Acura MDX is expected to go on sale this summer and will be joined by the MDX Sport Hybrid later in the year.
