Acura Upgrades Infotainment System for 2018 TLX

Although the team at Hall Acura Virginia Beach loves the entire Acura lineup, we have to agree that there's just something special about the TLX. Changes overall

As Jonathon Rivers, Acura senior product planner, told WardsAuto at a 2018 TLX media event, Acura has made some pretty significant improvements to the sedan's infotainment system: “We’ve changed all of the graphics, the user interface and even just speed for the software behind the system. We got rid of some of the redundancy, the things that were causing frustration with customers before.”

Acura claims a 30 percent improvement in processor speed in this new system, as well as a host of other tweaks—some major and some minor—to make the user experience more enjoyable.

Shortcuts galore

Some of the many ease-of-use changes include easier access to heat and ventilation controls, the ability to cycle through low/medium/high controls without having to press different buttons for each, accessing smartphone features like Android Auto™ or Apple CarPlay™ by pressing a single analog button, and even a feature specifically designed to help make navigating SiriusXM® simpler: a touchscreen tuning bar.

“We had a lot of complaints about it [being] really hard to get to the 200[-level] channels, 300[-level] channels,” Rivers says. “[With the tuning bar] you can just slide your finger across [to get to the upper channels].” There's also a keypad if you'd like to enter the number of the station you're looking for.
