Acura Prepping 'CDX' Compact Crossover?

If recent speculation is to be believed, Acura could be welcoming an entirely new model to its lineup in the near future. According to reports, Acura is considering adding a new subcompact crossover to its growing lineup of luxury cars.

Although nothing has been confirmed, the rumor mill is rich with speculation that the purported model would slot beneath the RDX and be based off Honda’s latest HR-V crossover.

The rumblings began after Honda trademarked the name “CDX.” The trademark was filed on February 11 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, covering “automobiles and their structural parts.”

While Acura has yet to comment on the rumors, the CDX strongly indicates a crossover of some sort, as the CDX name matches the current scheme used by the RDX and MDX.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of a small luxury crossover from Acura. At the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show, Acura unveiled a subcompact crossover called the SUV-X (pictured). Despite being geared towards the Chinese market, the SUV-X may have hinted at a future subcompact based off the HR-V platform destined for American shores.

With a number of Acura models already share platforms with similar Honda models, it stands to reason that the HR-V could in fact provide the template for a future luxury subcompact crossover.
